Chicago - Part 2
Bari and I started the day with a run along Lake Michigan. It was so pretty despite the humidity. Which wasn't horrific, but it reminded me of San Diego. It was nice to run with someone though. After our run and getting cleaned up, we headed out for Starbucks. And then hit up the Lego Store. Check out Bari and her boyfriend!

We both decided that this shirt needed to come in big sizes.
Then it was time for lunch and then Bari had to head home. (Boo! Hiss!)
After Bari left I hung out in my hotel room just relaxing for a few hours. I knew that my board member friend was coming in early evening and we'd get dinner together. Jamie and I headed out for the Sears Tower. I will admit that I didn't spend enough time looking at a map to get my bearings straight in Chicago. After all I'm used to mountains telling me which was is west. I took us 10 minutes in the opposite direction of the Sears Tower. We ended up stopping in a deli and having a quick bite to eat. I wanted to make it before sunset.
The Sears/Willis Tower has sky boxes. Essentially heavy duty plexy glass boxes that stick out from the side of the building. This was just looking over the edge of the box.

I was sure I was going to be able to walk into a box because of my vertigo issues. I finally braved it by walking in backwards and *not* looking down.
And guess what we found?
Yes, another freakin' spider living on the outside of the 103 floor. That is not a spider I'd like to meet on the ground. He'd probably be wicked fast with all that extra oxygen.
The one thing that struck me about Chicago that you don't notice in the city but is very apparent when you are a hundred stories up is how flat it is. I know, duh, right? But I come from mountains. I've never lived in a really flat place - flat as in *zero* hills.
But it sure does make for a beautiful sunset.
After the sun set, we decided to take a cab back. I had to take Jamie to the John Hancock building for a drink as it was her birthday. And what better way to enjoy your birthday than drinking chocolate alcohol 96 stories up?
The picture just doesn't do Woody justice. He is so much cuter IRL! Glad you were able to brave the skyboxes at the Sears Tower (being a midwesterner, I will never call it the Willis Tower).
ReplyDeleteIt will always be the Sears tower to me too. That sunset picture is totally awesome. You should enlarge it and frame it.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I love the pic of Bari with Woody -- too fun. And I am amazed at your courage to go out in that box. I don't think I could stomach it - literally.
ReplyDeleteBari and Woody look mighty cute together! :)
ReplyDeleteoh no way I could get in one of those glass boxes! Makes my tummy achy just thinking about it!
