Mornings
I am not a morning person. Ask anyone in my house. My kids learned a long time ago that messing with mommy before she has her cereal is a bad move. Sometimes the little one forgets, but she likes to mix things up and keep everyone on their toes. And don't mess with my "schedule". T likes to do sweet things, like make breakfast in the morning on the weekends and surprise me in bed with a cup of coffee and bacon and eggs. I'm an ingrate. That annoys me because I don't get to be in control of my little morning ritual. Yes, I'm more fun than a barrel of monkeys in the morning.
This morning when I rolled over and realized that I needed to get my butt out of bed, I came out and saw two things. One, the TV was on PBS. And two, Sweet Pea wasn't dressed. *sigh* So I turned the TV off and asked her to go get dressed. Amazingly I didn't hear any protest. She obliged. She also let me brush her hair without protest. And then let me snuggle her a little bit.
I've been nostalgic lately. My girls are getting so big. It is amazing to watch them grow and change and learn and I feel so honored that I get to spend my days with them. Those soft little cheeks of my 4yo (who in 5 weeks will be 5) were just so kissable. And this morning she let me kiss them.
I'm hoping she's not getting sick. Because I have plans. Big running plans. And life. And things to accomplish and do. Sick kids can.not be in my future. Especially with T out of town until Sunday.
For now I will cherish the sweet moments that I rarely expect anymore. Even if they happen in the morning.

I consider myself a morning person, but I am SUCH a creature of habit. This week, while family has been staying at my house, I've been out of my routine and all out of sorts.
ReplyDeleteI hope your girl isn't sick, so you can continue on with your plans. I'm also a big plan-maker, and hate when things don't work out. :) I'm a ton of fun, as well!
I, by most definitions, am a morning person. I'm not a mid-afternoon person because I'd rather be taking a nap. :)
ReplyDeleteMy girl is so happy in the morning, it makes them even better than they've ever been. :)
I love love love early morning snuggles.
Have a good weekend!
I am definitely NOT a morning person either. Somehow, I was blessed with 2 kids who have gotten themselves up and ready for school without being asked for a number of years. Given the chance, K will sleep until noon on the weekends, but is always up when her alarm goes off at 6. D will still be up by 7 or 8, even on the w/e. We taught him early on how to make cereal and operate the remote control :)
ReplyDeleteha! I got breakfast in bed once, and apparently complained enough that I won't ever get it again!! No wonder I love you!!!
ReplyDeleteYou forgot the most important morning ritual. Coffee.
