So, my first thought was to take a picture of all the little feet in my house, from cats to dogs to kids. And then I went on a little hike last Sunday as part of some prescribed quiet time. It was lovely. And it got me to thinking about where my feet tread in life. The reflection of my feet in the side of my truck after my run before my hike. I was planning on heading to a place I used to go in high school. Right on the edge of town - less than 5 minutes from my house - there is a small area of rocks on the side of the mountain that I used to climb with a friend. I wanted to sit on the top of those rocks and just listen to the silence. And here is that spot. Unfortunately, the people who live at the base of this hill obviously own the land up to the hill and put a fence al the way to the base of it. So I drove up the dirt road a bit to the south of this spot and found a different spot. Looking down at the town I grew up, it still lo...
I'm not sure how many of you know about my history with Texas. T and I lived there for four years when he was active duty. The 9yo was born in Texas. Texas was hot, humid, and the city we lived in did not inspire the warm fuzzies. I couldn't wait to leave. We have great friends from that time who, I hope, will be visiting us here in Nevada some time soon. I have to admit I wasn't thrilled with returning to Texas, but I'm so very glad that I did. Because the friendships that have evolved over this past year were solidified when I could actually hug these amazing ladies. Some of them I have been training with for Team in Training - some of them I will see again in just a few short weeks in San Diego when we will run/walk 13.1 miles all in the name of raising funds for le...
She was born in 1921. Married my grandfather in 1934. They raised seven kids - six boys. My dad is the second oldest. She was a housewife and mother. She had the biggest heart you'd ever hope to encounter. She lived her life with integrity and honesty and above all else LOVE. She imparted the importance of those things into her children. I was her first granddaughter. She taught me selflessness and the idea of family first by her actions. She was incredibly smart. My dad told me once that she was probably smarter than my grandfather was...who was an engineer and ran a big corporations and was an incredibly intelligent man in his own right. But she always wanted a big family. And my grandfather, an only child, happily complied and then proceeded to work to support his family and put seven kids through bachelor's degrees. My youngest is her namesake. I have a cousin who is also named after her. ...
