Insaneroadtrip Day 1

Let's see. What day one insane? Maybe a bit. It started off with the alarm going off at 6 a.m. That right there? Insane. Especially for a Sunday morning. I finished up my packing and have come to realize I only forgot my toothbrush and deodorant. (I used an extra one of the kids I happened to have and will be buying deodorant tomorrow.)

We left the house with a few tears from the girls over missing their daddy and a picture of the participants of #Insaneroadtrip in the back of out trusty stead.

Am I the only one looking thrilled?

We left a few minutes after 8 - which I believe I noted was 8:02. Yes. I wanted to be driving out the driveway by 8. Oh well. I guess the extra hugs and kisses for the girls is a good thing and worth the couple extra minutes.

It was rainy and cloudy and abnormal for the first week of June. But it made for beautiful skies contrasting with the mountains. Walker Lake was especially beautiful.

We stopped in Luning for a potty break (look! It's me not putting my nazi road trip driver in charge!) and then continued on our merry way to Tonopah where I filled up at the most expensive gas station in town. We lunched from the back of the truck on hard-boiled eggs and PB&J. The girls ate applesauce by drinking it out of the tubs because I forgot to bring plastic spoons. I did, however remember a knife to spread the peanut butter & jelly.

As I was making the sandwiches I hear from next to me, "It looks like you're traveling." I glance up to see an older trucker gentleman standing next to me with a wad of cash in his hand. I simply responded with, "yep. Sure are.". He then hands me $30 and tells us to have dinner at McDonald's on him. I tried to tell him no, but he insisted I take the money. So I did. We ended up buying cones for a treat after lunch was complete. It was a little strange but I tried to put on my "careful and kind" hat instead of my "paranoid/stalker" hat

The rest of the drive was fairly uneventful. The girls played and colored. Sweet Pea started in with the "are we there yets" about an hour from Vegas. But overall few complaints.

We arrived to my friend's house at about 4 pm and noticed it was a full 45 degrees warmer than when we left home. Needless to say everyone stripped off their pants in lieu of shorts.

My friend, Kelli, has 2 girls and all 5 of them got along quite nicely. They snacked and we had pizza for dinner. After we finally got the kids to calm down and go to sleep, it was close to 945. We might have a tough day ahead of us tomorrow.

The big people stayed up late talking races and funny kid stories and drinking wine. Overall a good day 1.

What's on tap for tomorrow? Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon and Prescott, Arizona where I will catch up with Tiffany. Can't wait to see her again! Wish me a meltdown-free day!

  2. Meltdown-free wishes are being sent!

It sounds like day one went pretty well. Hopefully you will only hear "are we there yet" a few more times (not likely, but we can always hope).

Have fun at Tiffany's and give her a squeeze from me!
